A three-hour Distance Learning Workshop will be presented on Thursday, May 3, 2012, from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm by the Arkansas Department of Education/Child Nutrition Unit (ADE/CNU).
The planned topic of the Distance Learning is the process that local school food authorities (SFA) will be required to meet in order to be certified as being in compliance with the final meal pattern regulations for the additional 6 cent per lunch meal served to students. The additional 6 cents becomes available to districts after October 1, 2012, that have been certified as meeting the requirements.
ADE/CNU is waiting on the published interim rule from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on the 6 cents certification for the performance based reimbursement rate increase for the new meal pattern. Section 201 of The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 requires USDA to publish interim or final regulations. If USDA does not release the published rule by May 3 CNU will update the participants on other topics for the upcoming school year.
