School districts are required to hold an annual school election and must comply with various legal requirements concerning budget publication, school tax rates, and school elections. The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) provides suggestions to assist school districts in meeting the requirements, including sample budgets and sample ballots.
The 2012 annual school election requirements and timelines, sample budgets, and sample ballots are attached.
PLEASE NOTE: In Commissioner's Memo COM-11-038, the ADE advised school districts that the deadline for filing the board zoning resolution required by Ark. Code Ann. § 6-13-630 would be June 20, 2012. After that memo was published, the Legislature passed Act 1185 of 2011, which extended the filing period for school board elections from sixty to seventy days. This change has the effect of modifying the deadline for filing the board zoning resolution. Under the new law, zoning resolutions must be adopted and filed no later than June 8, 2012, and the resolutions must be published no later than Sunday, June 10, 2012.
