Memo Text

Staff of the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program will again be offering training on behalf of the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Special Education Unit, on the supervision and use of SLP support personnel (assistants and aides).  Please refer to the attached notice which contains the training dates, sites and registration information and disseminate to any staff who need to participate or who are interested in participating.

If the use of SLP support personnel is being considered in a school or preschool setting/ program this school year, it would be desirable for individuals to participate in a training session. All personnel (speech-language pathologists, assistants and aides) who plan to implement this model MUST attend the introductory training session.

Written approval must be received before any use of an SLP assistant or aide by the school districts or cooperatives in the provision of direct services to eligible students with disabilities. Through a subcontract with UCA, Sharon Ross will again coordinate the approval process.  Guidelines for submitting proposals can be found in the Special Education Eligibility Criteria & Program Guidelines for Children with Disabilities, ages 3-21 on the ADE Web site at http://arksped.k12.ar.us/sections/rulesandregulations.html

Proposals should be submitted to Sharon Ross, UCA, P. O. Box 4985, Conway, AR 72035-0001.
